Labor Support Makes A Difference!

Results of six studies show the presence of a doula resulted in:

  • 50% decrease in cesarean births
  • 25% decrease in length of labor
  • 40% decrease in the use of oxytocin
  • 30% decrease in the use of pain medications
  • 40% decrease in the use of forceps
  • 60% decrease in the use of epidurals
  • Increase in the father/partner participation with confidence

In addition, long-term benefits of labor support included:

  • Increased success in breastfeeding
  • Decreased postpartum depression
  • Greater maternal satisfaction
  • Better Mother-Infant interaction
